In practice, Zero Trust is mainly about how you organise access. That does not have to be a leap into the unknown. You start where it makes sense: with sensitive data, critical applications or external access. Not everything at once. Not more than necessary.
That way, it remains manageable, both for IT and for the organisation.
And what about the cost?
Zero Trust obviously requires an investment. In practice, that investment often remains limited, because you are not simply adding extra security, but using what you already have in a smarter way. What we see in many organisations is that Zero Trust helps to simplify and consolidate security, eliminating overlap between solutions and making costs more predictable.
Companies reduce their dependency on traditional VPN solutions, which often require additional management and maintenance. At the same time, many organisations build further on security capabilities they already have, for example within their Microsoft environment. By using those correctly, you avoid additional products and licences.
And there is another aspect that is often underestimated. Security incidents, data breaches and unauthorised access are rarely without significant cost. Zero Trust helps to structurally reduce that risk, without disrupting daily operations.
Not a major project, but a logical evolution
Zero Trust is not a complex or expensive story. It is a pragmatic way to let security evolve alongside the way companies work today. With the right guidance, it remains technically feasible and financially realistic.
