Our sales department guarantees the best prices and the strongest service!
According to the Dutch dictionary ‘Dikke Van Dale’, a team is ‘a group of people working together’. That is certainly the minimum you can say about Kurt, Joeri and Ben. They take teamwork quite literally. Together for one goal: long-term customer relationships. “That strong customer focus has grown enormously in recent years,” says sales manager Kurt Liekens. “Ten years ago, Office-IT started with five experienced technicians, and today we have several departments with a total of twenty-seven colleagues. Technical expertise remains the foundation of our business, but we now place much more emphasis on the complete picture. We don’t just sell products — we support customers with a long-term IT vision. By being genuinely involved in their organisation, we want to become more than a strategic partner.
Ideally, we want to be seen as a trusted advisor and first point of contact for all technological questions.”
Joeri Vael has been part of the team for many years as a sales employee. He remembers how his role gradually evolved. “In the past, I was solely responsible for purchasing and inside sales. I simply didn’t have the time to go out and visit customers. Our technicians took on the role of account manager because they were usually on site anyway. As Office-IT grew and our managed services became increasingly important, things changed. Remote support is now provided much more frequently. And I now have two sales colleagues, which gives us as a team more time to meet customers in person. An account manager must first and foremost be able to listen carefully to a customer’s needs.
The market offering is incredibly broad, and it’s up to us to determine what we should and should not propose.
What helps is that we, as sales, know exactly where all the expertise lies within Office-IT and who to involve when needed. We often rely on our technical colleagues. They have full insight into every customer’s infrastructure. This ensures that we present the right products and the right licences, and that our quotations are based on correct, customer-specific information.” Ben Schoeters, the youngest account manager, agrees. “The first contact usually runs through our sales department, but after that the entire company works together in function of the customer. We identify what customers really want and translate those needs to the rest of the organisation. Clear communication is extremely important — in every direction.”
Every account manager is also a product manager
Every account manager is also product manager for certain products and/or services offered by Office-IT. Joeri specialises in hardware and is responsible for all purchases. Ben is product manager for VoIP and also handles software and all licences. Within their area of expertise, they ensure they regularly obtain the necessary certifications, stay fully up-to-date with the market offering and – importantly – share interesting updates with their colleagues. Knowledge-sharing fits perfectly with the company’s decision to duplicate expertise rather than centralise it. At Office-IT it is not the intention that one person holds all knowledge about a product or service. “Everyone knows something about everything,” Ben confirms. “And a lot of information is centrally accessible to the whole team. This allows us to support customers at any time, even if a colleague is sick or on holiday. Of course, as account managers, each of us does have ‘our own’ customers.
Most people prefer a single point of contact, and we consider that very important at Office-IT. Personal contact and long-term relationships built on trust — that is what we stand for.”
A dedicated contact person with an engaged team as backup
For several years now, this has proven to be the ideal approach to guarantee sustainable customer service and loyalty. “We notice that our customers truly appreciate this personal approach,” Kurt says with some pride. “Our broad product knowledge and the flexibility we offer are also strongly appreciated. We may not be the biggest player on the market, but we are very close to our customers and speak their language. That is what sets us apart.” Joeri has also maintained strong relationships with many suppliers for years. “Thanks to those strong partnerships, we always manage to obtain quick support when needed. If a customer experiences an issue with a product we have sold, we always resolve it!”
There is a very positive dynamic within this sales team. Everyone sounds equally enthusiastic, and it is clear that they work extremely well together. Productivity, creativity and enjoyment bind them — and motivate them to come to the office every day with a smile.
Office-IT Sales Department – 1 team, 3 unique personalities
Kurt Liekens - Sales manager
Loves a dynamic work environment, empowerment as a management style
and a cosy dinner now and then.
Employed since 2021 (part of the family since birth).
Previous job: Account Manager at an international company in the logistics sector.
Why did you switch to Office-IT?
“Because my dad had been asking me for years (laughs). The shift from managed logistic services to managed IT services was actually very logical. After more than 10 years in a corporate environment, I wanted to apply my account management experience in a smaller organisation and help lift the sales policy to a higher level. Today, every customer has an account manager as a dedicated point of contact, who works closely with the technical team. All together in function of the customer. It’s a formula that clearly works. To me, it’s important to relieve our customers as much as possible by fully understanding their needs and proposing solutions that will still meet those needs in a few years.”
What is important to you in a job?
“I like working in a young, dynamic team where everyone’s identity and vision are respected. As a manager, I expect the team to take ownership, think proactively and suggest possible solutions. I am not a micromanager at all.
I enjoy working at Office-IT because it’s a local family business with a flat structure. I know what it’s like to work in a rigid organisation. The atmosphere here is much more relaxed, and we all work toward the same clear goal. That makes me genuinely happy.”
Joeri Vael - Account manager
A loyal expert in his field with a good dose of dry humour.
Employed since 2014.
Previous job(s): Joeri has been interested in IT since he was young. In 1992 he opened an IT shop in Deurne. Purchasing, sales, assembly, installation and maintenance of computers, notebooks and similar equipment for individuals, schools and companies. That was his first job, and since then he has always worked in IT.
Why did you switch to Office-IT?
“I’ve known Eddy Mandemaker for 35 years, and through him I got to know Eric. From 1999 onwards, I worked for them for a few years as a freelancer, and afterwards we always stayed in touch. When Office-IT started growing rapidly, they brought me on board again. I’ve never regretted that.”
What is important to you in a job?
“I have a broad network and strong relationships with many people in the sector. Those connections are extremely valuable, especially in my role as purchaser. Knowing that I can add real value here gives me great satisfaction.
I also find it important to stay up-to-date technologically. And I really enjoy sales, especially when it comes to more complex products. Human contact, building trust — I wouldn’t want to miss that.
I like working at Office-IT because the family treats all employees with great respect. It feels good to be appreciated. The team atmosphere is also very positive. There can be healthy stress sometimes, but that’s necessary to stay sharp. At Office-IT the customer always comes first. That may sound cliché, but it’s really our strength. Everyone is genuinely committed. We treat our customers very personally and always offer the best and most suitable solution. I am proud of that.”
Ben Schoeters - Account manager
A friendly family man who always finds the right words at the right moment.
Employed since 2023.
Previous job: Sales Advisor at BMW.
Why did you switch to Office-IT?
“I worked at BMW for 11 years, and Eric was one of my customers. We’ve had a strong relationship for a long time. One day he told me: ‘The way you interact with people — that’s exactly how I want you to do sales at our company.
It’s clearly your second nature. You’ll learn the IT part along the way.’ His job offer came at the perfect moment. I was starting to feel burned out and I couldn’t see myself staying in the automotive sector for many more years. The IT sector appealed to me. It’s the sector of the future in my opinion, with many opportunities. The working hours here are also much better compared to my previous job. I’m a family man, so I’m happy that I can now be home on time more often. And yes, as a family man, I feel very much at home in a family business.”
What is important to you in a job?
“The full package has to make sense. Preferably for a long time, because I am not a job hopper. When I work somewhere, I take my role seriously and I want to do the job well. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to reorient myself here. It’s quite a challenge and I need to study a lot, but that motivates me. Learning new things keeps me sharp.”
“I enjoy working at Office-IT because I can grow alongside my customers. I receive a lot of trust from management and colleagues — they truly believe in me. And I get along with everyone in the team, which is important too. We spend many hours together, so it’s better to make it enjoyable. I am very happy with my career switch. It feels like being on holiday every day.”
