Help a virus
I have a virus on my PC! What do I do?
A reliable backup plan is a fundamental part of your IT policy. In the cloud, to a local server, or off-site? Everything is possible.
Follow these steps:
- Disconnect from the network (Wi-Fi, cable, or both). A virus can spread via email in the background. When your computer is infected, it must be disinfected before you go online again.
- Make sure your antivirus software is up to date! If you need to update it, download the update files on another PC, put them on an external drive or USB stick, and run them on your infected PC.
- Gather as much information as possible about the virus from another computer.
- Let your antivirus perform a full system scan.
- If you still experience problems, contact the Office-IT Helpdesk.
Some viruses are persistent and difficult to remove. In some cases, they even disable the antivirus software or prevent the infected file from being cleaned or deleted. Sometimes, reinstalling your system is the only way to restore security.
